How Does A Stun Gun Work?
Stun Gun is a popular type of self defense gadget. Out of all the self defense tools, it is one that works through battery. It is an excellent device that stuns the enemy for quite a few minutes. In this article, we will discuss how does a stun gun work?
Stun guns emit electric shock when touched into someone’s body and paralyzes the person for a little while. It acts upon the neuromuscular system of the attacker leaving him unable to act or function. The stun gun has to be touched in any part of the body to emit electric shock and paralyze the person. However, the current does not pass into your body if you touch the attacker’s body by mistake. Stun gun stuns a person for 5-10 minutes giving you chance to run away.
The purpose of stun gun is not to kill someone but only disable a person for a short while. The original idea of stun gun was developed from Taser or Thomas Swift’s electric rifle. Taser was used by commandos in 1952 but that was much more powerful than the stun gun that is used by civilians today. From 1970s onwards stun guns are being made for individual self defense purpose. Thus, the internal mechanism of the sun gun is based on Taser. However, stun gun is not as powerful as Taser but it is a simple handheld device designed for common man’s use.
Let’s See How Stun Guns Work:
- 9 - Volt battery supply electricity to circuit containing transformers and voltage boosters.
- The voltage boosters boost the voltage up to 20, 000 to 150,000 volts. The booster also reduces the amperage.
- The oscillator in the circuit fluctuates current to create an electrical pulse.
- The current produced from the electric pulse builds up an electric charge and transfers it to the electrodes.
- Electrodes are two metal plates positioned at a gap from each other inside the circuit. As the electrodes are on the circuit, electricity keeps passing between the two electrodes
- Human body is also a conductor of electricity, so when the stun gun is touched into a human body with the help of its prongs the current between the two electrodes is passed into the human body.
The above steps briefly explain how a stun gun works? Stun gun is no rocket science but definitely needs logic in its design. Many people make stun guns at home, but the industrial ones are better in quality and durability.
